Personal suitcase packer anyone?

On my way back from Lahndahn today I came across an article in the newspaper: "POSH PACKING." Turns out Louis Vuitton have hired a 'packing artist' to pack clients suitcases for luxury holidays. There is even a step-by-step guide. Some of the tips include:

  1. Place heavy objects in-between shoes.....?
  2. Fill all empty spaces with underwear, socks and rolled up belts....?
  3. Lay your shirts on the wheeled side of the case...?
All sounds a bit unessescary to me! But I guess if you have the money then YOLO.

Talking of money, the price of this service was not mentioned in the article but they hinted towards the service costing more than an easy jet flight to Edinburgh....wow...(the flights can be up to £500.)

In addition to all of this the 'packing artist' offers a detailed instruction on....wait for it....HOW TO ZIP UP YOUR BAG????!!!!

Well I guess....if you're gonna travel, you may as well do it in style....

What do you think? Too much?

YOLO. Also a bra life is only 6 months....which I DID NOT know!!!

Here is a have from the sample sale today:

Benetton UNhate Campaign

As you know I love a controversial advert in Fashion. This time its more serious then the 'don't-wet-yourself-with-excitement-Harvey-Nicks-advert.' In 2011 Italian Fashion brand United Colour of Benetton launched their 'unhate' campaign to promote cultural diversification and to send out a message about the need to overcome the culture of Hate.

Benetton used the following (superimposed) messages to promote their campaign. I guess if world leaders can put aside their hate for each others nation then the impact will be world wide...

Although some prints like the International Herald refused to print these ads, at the time they trended on Twitter and reached 500m internet users, making an impact through social media.

Its quite funny to see images like this, and I think Benetton have been really creative with this. So much so that they won the Press Grand Prix at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity, for best international press campaign.

This video went alongside the photos:

The Vatican were totally ANN GARY and I think they went as far as to sue United Colours of Benetton.

In other news I'm starting my exciting internship on Monday! YAY. I'm also moving in with one of my besties Jess's house and its going to be soooo much fun as we are both doing internships in London....cue lots of blogging!

What do you think of the Benetton advert? Do you think it gets the message across?

Funniest Catwalk Falls

Its always funny when something a bit bad happens to someone else....unless of course its serious. I'm referring to stuff like a friend getting poo'ed on by a bird, walking into a lamppost or watching a catwalk show and the model falls over! This sounds cruel but take a look, its actually pretty funny.

Sorry about the short post today....Im on a double shift at work!!

Hope that made you laugh.

Its not the size, its how you use it

Apparently summer is on its way (well today is pretty fine and dandy!). Fashion and body image often go hand in hand. From super skinny models to plus size models and all the controversy that comes in between. Its often at summer where these two words 'fashion and body image' become practically synonymous. You may be wondering where I'm going with this. Well the other day I read an article about plus size models which can be found here:

http://fashionista.com/2012/01/plus-size-model-editorial-says-runway-models-meet-the-physical-criteria-for-anorexia/

Its really interesting, and you should deffo give it a read (its not very long), its from January so its not a very recent article but the issue discussed is relevant and still a wide topic of debate. I was shocked and nervous to read that most runway models meet the body mass index for anorexia....which is just not right. However, because of the nature of the industry I think this will always be the case- its the way its always been! Needless to say their were lots of people who commented on the article...with a wide range of differing opinions.

In this industry there is a lot of pressure to look your best at all times and it often gets competitive, especially with the fickle nature of it. When I went to an all girls school there was a lot of competitiveness concerning eating and at the time it was the most important thing in our lives but now me and my friends look back and think : we were such twats.

Kate Moss caused controversy a while back saying "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" which in a way I can understand. But then everyone has their own happy weight where they feel 'skinny,' so such a broad term and I think what she meant was misconstrued. But it is  a shame that these days teenagers, who are easily impressionable, are under pressure. For example, I have Tumblr account. Tumblr's main audience is young people aka teenagers and there are so many 'thinspo' and 'dieting' posts that come up on the newsfeed, without even looking for it, its there- which is not healthy.

Ultimately, I think its not the size of your body but how you use it. I don't think size matters, as long as your happy! ;) hahaha and I'm still talking about body image guys!

As long as you feel healthy in yourself and are happy with your appearance I say why should anyone else give a sheeeeet?!

Whats your take on all of this? Whats your opinion on runway models VS plus size models? I know this is a controversial subject but I hope I've gone about talking about it in the right way!

The Harvey Nicks Controversy

I was doing a bit of a stalk on the internet the other day and came across the recent ad campaign by Harvey Nichols. Has anyone else seen these? On first sight I thought they were a joke advert. But it turns out they are real. I think they are quite funny and its refreshing to see fashion being able to laugh at itself. Especially such a prestigious name as Harvey Nicks!

H.N launched a string of adverts with the tagline "try to contain your excitement" where the models appear to have wet themselves with excitement for the H.N summer sale! This isn't the first time H.N have come under fire for their adverts- at christmas 2011 it fronted a controversial campaign with the slogan "Turn your walk of shame into the stride of pride with Harvey Nichols."

The recent summer ads look a bit like this....

They caused quite a lot of controversy with people even commenting that these ads made them less likely to shop at H.N in future which is quite a big deal.

What do you think of the adverts?! Is it funny or is it just too silly??

I'd love to hear your opinions!

This Weeks Style Crush

I have decided to ‘spice’ my blawg up with a weekly ‘feature.’ Every week I’m going to write a focus blawg post on someone who I see as a style inspiration or someone who’s look I think it hawt and dangerous. If you are a regular reader you will already understand my love for Lana Dey Rey who I wrote about a couple of months ago.

So here is the first one: MILLE MACKINTOSH from Made In Chelsea.

Okay. So where do I even start?! I think Millie is totally hot and dangerous, she always had amazing hair and the best tan ever. In addition to this she is going out with PROFESSOR GREEN, who I have a major crush on! Whats not to love!?

Millie is all about a pair of skinny jeans and a staple blazer- two wardrobe must haves. Millie’s look is quite simple with a few staple pieces from a capsule wardrobe. I’ve always wanted to be able to work out a capsule wardrobe but knowing my uncontrollable shopping habits I think it would be impossible.

This blazer is amazing and would go with about 407402370247502 outfit combinations for example high waisted jeans or a summer dress.

Denim jackets work with basically everything, in summer they look especially cute with summer chiffon dresses or maxi dresses. I'm in search for the perfect denim jacket as I lost mine recently! If you see any beauts on your shopping travels please let me know! :)

This is my fave outfit out of the ones on this post. I love the shoes and the top especially. I don't think leather trousers would suit me so I'd wear this with high waisted skinny denim jeans.

Also I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of her in a pair of flats… which I really can appreciate as being a fellow tall girl heels or no heels is often a major question on a night out.  #tallgirlproblems. Its no fun being taller than boys but on the other hand it can work in your favour towering over people in an intimidating way. Ha ha ha!

Who is your style crush at the moment?  What do you think about Millie’s style? What would you do differently to the outfits shown?

In other news this weekend I went to a 21st. The sun came out to join us which made choosing an outfit so much easier! I wore my old faithful floral body with a new cream chiffon skirt that I bought for my internship which starts soon and added some rings, bangles and my new spiky necklace!

Its a shame my feet are so white. hahaha

Date Night with the Gal Pals

This summer my friends and I are totally abusing being home and all together again. A few of us are going away on holiday and others have internships so we're all over the place for the next couple of months. So when we have time together we intend to fully take advantage of it.

Last night four of us went for dins and drinkies and this is what I wore:

Soz about the shocking and nervewracking nature of these photos. My Mum isn't the best photographer/should probs invest in a better camera.

Necklace - H&M
Top- Primarni
Jeans - Topshop
Shoe boots - Topshop

I love this top SO MUCH. Its one of the most flattering things I own.

Today I've been working on my dissertation proposal but obviously got distracted and came across this inspiring article (well it inspired me!) have a read and let me know what you think....

In other news with my blog I write how I speak and I think unless you know me you probably think I'm a bit cafe loco with all the random phrases I use so here is a little 'lexicon' of sayings (cringe) to make more sense of my posts! Haha

  • Shocked and nervous - A joke that was formed in Barcelona with my uni gal pals, can be applied to anything really.
  • How ya doin' that? - Most used when you disagree with something or you're shocked and nervous e.g. on the existence of Toms: HOW YA DOIN' THAT?
Cant really think of anymore at the moment, but if you're confused just comment and I'll explain. Will add more to the end of each post!

Jubilee Weekend 2012

For the Jubilee weekend I went to Bournemouth with my Mum and Dad to visit my beautiful sister!

Here we are back in the day with me, ever the fashionista rocking a JAZZY swimsuit, which ironically are all the rage right now...HOLLA.

Bournemouth, like the rest of the UK, was totally jubileed out! Bunting and flags everywhere, and a massive screen on the beach with the live footage from London during the weekend. Its a shame the weather wasn't nicer for Queenie.

During times like the Jubilee and Royal Wedding I become a bit of a royalist, especially since Kate Middleton came on the scene. I think she's hashtag amazeballs and always looks impeccable which is my life goal. To look as good as she does. All the time. The girl even looks good in a kitten heel, dare I say it.

Slash I'll be marrying Prince Harry soon so ...

I know I'm going to sound like a total loser but I AM GUTTED I didn't go to any cute little street parties.

I would've been all over these cupcakes like a rash!

Unfortunately I did not think ahead and my outfit wasn't very fitting for the jubilee occasion.

Jacket- Zara
Scarf- Primark
Watch- DKNY
Bangles- Prmark
T-shirt- H&M
Jumper- Primark

Absolutely love these cute little beach homes!

I had a lovely weekend....did you do anything to celebrate the jubilee? Who is your fave royal?

Interviews and Interning Part Deux

There are so many different interviewing techniques and sometimes it can be tricky to know which approach to take when doing research for it. Will it be an informal chat or a formal interview? What questions will they ask? What can I say to show why I’m the perfect person for this job?

I’m not a fan of interviews, my friends can account for the fact I get shocked and nervous when put in this sort of situation and I find it hard to be myself. Even when I was pitching for a job role in our Fashion Marketing University Fashion Show, it was only pitching to my tutors but still I felt so on edge.

The worst feeling is coming out of an interview and feeling so spaced out because you’re not sure how it went. Most of the interviews I’ve had so far have been quite formal. A few months ago I had a VERY formal one with rigid questions and I was so nervous that I ended up talking loads and loads of rubbish and didn’t know when to stop. EEK. Needless to say I did not secure that placement- however the interview experience was good to have- if not stressful at the time.

Before I have the interview I ALWAYS Google maps the location so I know what it looks like/how to get there and where it actually is! I’m literally the worst person for geography or directions (one I directed my friend to the WRONG HOUSE- how is that even possible- I’ve lived there 21 years?!?!?) so without Google maps I literally would not be loving life. I also make lots of notes on the company which I can read on the train before and have a few questions that they could ask me and answers to them written down. I read somewhere you should always take a spare copy of your CV with you, and any references you have had too.

Obviuosly in the fashion industry, what you wear, how you present yourself and your overall image is really key. I have a ‘back up’ interview outfit which is what I usually wear to interviews if I can’t find anything else. This is really useful if its short notice. I should probably change this back up outfit because soon people will start saying ‘OMG there is that trampy intern in the chiffon mustard dress- does she not have any other clothes?!” This would NOT be the one. The most important thing for me is feeling comfortable. I’m not massively adventurous in my clothing and so wouldn’t wear something really alternative to a interview because it wouldn’t look right and I wouldn’t feel right.

Interviews and Internships part un

This year so far Ive had quite a few interviews and have been chasing internships like a crazy woman. I thought it would be useful to write a post on interning and interviews- I'm no expert but its always an eye opener seeing other peoples views on these things!

As a fashion student the word ‘internship’ carries numerous alternative meanings. Its something you know is required to advance in you career and make your CV stand out to potential employers, but it is also something that is not always easily attainable.

Being a fashion intern can be lots of fun. Its so rewarding and often not as scary as people might expect (The Fashion Industry have ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ to thank for that and UGLY BETTY. THANK YOUUU!). I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and being busy, two parts of the intern role. Recently, I was assistant styling manger in a Fashion Show put on by my course at university (see older posts) and learnt from this that I work very well in high pressure environments- which interning can often be, especially if you’re interning at fashion week or catwalk shows, for example. When I interned for Matthew Williamson during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year it was definitely a case of high pressure as so many things were happening at once and I had to learn to be flexible in order to successfully multi task. By the end of the week of doing 8.30am – whenever times we were all so tiered but it was such an amazing experience I would have been a total mug to say no. Not only did I meet some really interesting people and learn so much but I felt so independent and proud of myself- its not everyday you get a job offer in Paris. It was pretty surreal hearing clients starting conversations like ‘OMG, last night at dinner Kayne and Jay-Z were sat on the next table to us.” Don’t tend to hear that in Northampton or Oxford! That’s the type of conversations I want to be having in five years time!!!

On the other hand interning, or rather securing a placement can be really challenging and there are often times when you feel like giving up. I’m not an expert at interning but I do have a few tips that I think most aspiring interns would agree with. Firstly, I think that pester power is the way to go. Often companies are so busy and receive hundreds of emails a day and yours might be overlooked so the more you send I reckon the more likely you’ll get a response.

Following up emails is also a good idea, as it shows your really keen and eager to work for the company. For example, the other day I sent a mass of emails out to people I had previously been in contact with but the thread of emails had stopped for whatever reasons. The next day I got a reply from one of the companies that I REALLY love and the day after that I had an interview and now I am interning for them this summer! YAY. There have been loads of times when my friends and I have felt really disheartened from a lack of response or a bad experience… however this feeling I’ve found is only momentary. I try not to let it get me down because you have to work hard and get knock backs in order to get where you want to be. A new thing I’ve done recently is actually ring the company or send a letter. The phone call method is really daunting (I can be a shy person too so it was extra scary!) But it shows initiative, passion and drive, and is more personal than an email. The letter is an ‘old fashioned’ approach, because who really sends ‘letters’ these days?! I think its quite a unique way to contact a company because anyone can send an email, its not very original, but a letter is more poignant in a way and shows true determination and commitment as it is more effort.

One of the most annoying things about interning in fashion is more often then not they are not paid and only travel remunerations are offered. There have been a few times when I have nearly turned down an opportunity because of this reason. Money does not, unfortunately, grow on trees. Everyone’s finances are different and as a student unpaid work seems like a totally foreign concept but I think its important to take all opportunities offered to you. So I try to avoid saying no to placements, even if it means I can’t buy new clothes for a few weeks which if you know me you know that’s pretty much mission impossible.

Would you agree? Do you have any tips to add? What’s been your best/worst interning experience?

University Of Northampton Graduate Fashion Show

This is very scary but I've officially finished second year .... AHHHH! I'm hoping for a long and VERY slow summer so that I don't have to return to Uni and be a serious third year and then graduate into THE REAL WORLD. dun dun dunnnnn.

Before I came back to Oxford, I did some work experience for the Graduate Fashion Show along with some of my friends. The day was pretty chilled and involved us making sure people knew where they were doing (Silverstone is SO confusing!!) and looking pretty (which we did not look in the beautifully flattering t-shirts in the photo below!) and smiling. Ha ha ha.

It was also a great chance to see the standard of work set by the current third years for our final year projects!

Rockin our 'UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON' t-shirts....of course ... loud and proud....umm

 Henmans/Schwarzkopf/Grad Students collaboration.

The red coats teamed with black tights/polo necks and shoes was very effective in making sure that the coats were the main focal point!
This collection was a printed one and gave such a nice summery feel!
My fave collection, fur coats to die for!
Printed shirts collection

The Promo Video

It was the duty of a fashion marketing student to put together the promo video for the fashion show. The theme was 'British Heritage' with the background idea of 'Making Britain Great' running throughout. This all links in with this year being the Jubilee Year and the Olympics being held here in the UK later this year.

I was asked to take part in this with some friends. Unfortunately I can't find a link on youtube for it but here are some of the still shots:

 OH HAI

It was such a good day, I love having my hair and make up done for me! But it wasn't so fun having to stand in the cold wearing not a lot except a very thin dress and heeled DMS which were not the one.

The promo video showcased some of the collections from the Fashion Student graduates which were then shown on the day.

Which was your fave collection? I think mine was the pink, grey and fur one!
